The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) leader, parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today that the country’s debt has increased toRs. 16.3 trillion.
Dissanayake said although the government took loans on the pretext ofinitiating development projects, the assets acquired do not match thespending.
He said the rulers of the country and the bureaucracy around them haveassets and property and called them black property earned throughdubious means.
“The first bill passed by Basil Rajapaksa as the Finance Minister wasto launder black property” he said addressing the media in Colombo.
He said if the people had listened to the JVP when the party warnedthat the gates of economic destruction were being opened, our country and future generations would not have been victims of such acatastrophe.
