An ambulance driver escaped unharmed from a failed shooting attempt by a group of gunmen near the Panadura Base Hospital last afternoon.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said the gunmen had opened fire at the driver while the ambulance was carrying a patient to the Panadura Base Hospital. However the pistol had not fired saving his life.
The gunmen had come on two motor bicycles and had opened fire twice at the victim, it is reported.
It is suspected that these gunmen had attempted to kill the ambulance driver based on a drug smuggling incident in the Horana area. Police are yet to arrest the suspects.
Panadura South Police are conducting investigations into the incident.
