Two arrested with 400 anthurium plants

Two Sri Lankan businessmen were arrested at the Arrival Terminal of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) with 400 anthurium plants which were brought into the country illegally, Customs Deputy Director (Legal) and Media Spokesman Sudatta Silva said.

The arrests had been made by Customs Officials under the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance. The anthurium plants worth over Rs.10 million had been brought from Thailand.

“The suspects arrived from Bangkok, Thailand by SriLankan Airlines. The plants had been carried in four travelling bags. The suspects and the plants were handed over to the airport herb control unit for further investigations,” Silva said.
