Police arrested 16 people in the Omanthai area in Vavuniya and recovered 16 banners belonging to the ‘Awa’ gang.
More than 40 youths from the Vavuniya, Omanthai and Gothander Nochchikulam areas were detected with ‘Awa’ gang banners.
Police said the youth had sharp weapons in their possession. The 16 persons arrested by the Special Task Force were handed over to the Omanthai Police. Sharp weapons, flag poles and mobile phones were recovered from the detainees. The arrested youths were aged between 18 and 26 from Vavuniya Maruthankulam, Arasankulam, Kovilkulam, Kozhiyakulam, Shastrikulangulam, Nelukulam, Omanthai and Mullaitivu, Thalaimannar, Kilinochchi and Jaffna areas and were aged between 44 and 45.
