New Zealand High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Michael Appleton, paid a courtesy call on Minister of Public Security, Tiran Alles, at the Public Security Ministry premises in Suhurupaya, Battaramulla (2)
During the meeting, the Minister and the kiwi diplomat had discussed present issues in the country, such as the ongoing economic meltdown, the youth demonstrations and protests and the solutions that could be provided to such burning problems of the masses.
Furthermore, Minister Alles and HC Appleton had exchanged views with regard to strengthening of bilateral relations between Colombo and Wellington, the importance of combating illegal migration of Sri Lankans to Australia and New Zealand via its sea routes, as well as economic, political and social matters of importance to both nations.
During the meeting, the NZ High Commissioner had assured Minister Alles of fullest cooperation and assistance to carry out the functions of the Public Security Ministry, in addition to providing support towards the welfare activities of the officers of the Police Department.
Afterwards, HC Appleton had extended his wishes to Minister Alles, over his appointment as the new Minister of Public Security.
Public Security Ministry Secretary, S. Hettiarachchi also took part in the meeting.
