The Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment orders an investigation into the death of a worker at Namunukula Plantation Company due to electrocution, after he was allegedly forced to do electrical maintenance work

The Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment, Manusha Nanayakkara, instructed the Ministry Secretary and the Commissioner General of Labour to immediately conduct an investigation into the death of an employee of Namunukula Plantation Company due to electrocution.
The Minister instructed to find out whether the accident happened while the employee was being forcibly employed in another work that he did not have any expert knowledge. If such a thing has happened the Minister instructed to take necessary action against wrongdoers under the labour law.
A twenty-five-year-old labourer named Harshan Ganeshmurthy, who lived in the Kanawarella estate belonging to the plantation company, died on the 9th due to electrocution. In the post-mortem examination conducted by the Badulla forensic medical officer, it has been confirmed that the death occurred due to electrocution.
It is said that this worker is a regular labourer and he was forced to do electrical maintenance work. Based on the media reports and information received in this regard, the Minister instructed to conduct an immediate investigation and to take strict measures in accordance with the labour law.
