Iranian film Industry started along with the global film industry in the first half of the 20th century. The Government of Iran has gifted 5 films this year as a symbol of the friendship between two countries. These films are awarded winning and internationally acclaimed films. Iran films have a great influence on the Sri Lankan movie industry and the movie audience said Minister of Mass Media Bandula Gunawardena.
Minister addressing the inaugural ceremony of Iran Film Festival which was held at the National film Corporation Tharangani Theater, Colombo recently. It was organized by Iran Cultural Center to mark the 44th Anniversary of the Victory of Islamic Revolution of Iran.
Memory of the Teacher, Mangrove, Story of my father’s bike and me, Loneliness and A name films was screened on 6th to 11th February 2023
Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Iran Hashem Ashjaazdseh said he is happy hold a Iran film festival in Sri Lanka for the second consecutive year and film and cinema are a combination of many artists, literature, drama, music are crystallized together in cinema and films.
He thanked the Mass Media Minister, Film Corporation Chairman Deepal Chandraratna and SLRC Chairman A.B. Ganegala for their corporation.
Cultural Counselor of Iran Cultural Center Bahman Moazamil said the attraction of Iranian films for Sri Lanka artists and people. Although it is a sign of this deep understanding of Iranian artists and directors. It is also a sign of the Cultural Commonality of two nations. He pointed out Cinema is a part of Iranian art such as literature, painting, architectures, music etc. He also remembered late Dr. Sumitra Peiris contribution of Sinhala Cinema many decades.
A portrait of late Sumithra Pieris was handed over to her niece, Gayathri Mustaashi by the Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Iran Hashem Ashjaazdseh.
Film Corporation Chairman Deepal Chandrartna, SLRC Chairman A.B. Ganegala and embassy officials were present.
