RUZAIK FAROOK
This year’s theme for the World Thinking Day is “Our Planet, Our Peaceful Future: The Environment and Peace,” which focuses on environmental challenges and taking actions to protect the earth for future generations. Members of the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association put this idea into action by organizing a beach clean-up effort in various urban coastal locations around the island, from the northern to the southern coast.
The project’s purpose was to clean up beach rubbish in order to make the beach a nicer, safer place to visit, as well as to improve the coastal and ocean ecosystem. This project raised awareness and comprehension of pollution caused by plastic, garbage, and litter. It provided an opportunity for Girl Guides to learn about and address a current global issue.
The girl guides of 38th Colombo Muslim Ladies’ College had their beach cleanup at Mount-Lavinia beach along with 26th Colombo St. Lawrence Convent recently with the participation of the chief guest Ms. Sanjani Gamage, Vice president Research Committee Young Zoologists Association, guest of honour Mrs. Nadeeka Gunasekara International Commissioner of SL Girl Guides Association, Muslim Ladies College Teacher in charges Mrs. S.H.G.Vidushini, Ms. Sangeetha, Ms. Kalpana and Guide Captain Mrs. Noor Raheema were also present.
