1612 cartons and 10 nos. of one liter Whisky Bottles were found concealed inside 26packages declared as household furniture and personal goods by Customs officers at Ceylon Shipping Lines UPB warehouse, Colombo 09.
The consignment containing 26 packages have been arrived from Dubai under two separate B/L numbers to a consignee named M.R.M. Razan, a resident of Thotawaththa, Panadura.
Upon examination of the packages, the customs found 10 Liters of Whisky concealed inside washing powder boxes and the cigarettes were concealed inside furniture parts specially made to hide the 1612 nos. Cigarette cartons. The value of the cigarettes cartons is amounting to Rs. 24,180,000/-. The value of the Whisky 10 liters is amounting to Rs. 180,000/- Value of the other personal Goods is amounting to Rs. 728,000/- .
A formal inquiry was held into the matter and the inquiring officer has forfeited the whole consignment valued at Rs.119,207,000/- (Value + Duty) and a mitigated further forfeiture of Rs.500,000/- was imposed on the suspect.
Sri Lanka Customs Staff attached to the CSL UPB warehouse conducted the investigations.
