Prime Minister Amarasuriya At Cafe 2025 Opening: Elevate Sri Lanka’s Culinary Identity

During her address as Chief Guest at the inauguration of the Culinary Art Food Expo (CAFE) – 2025 on June 13th at the BMICH, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stressed the importance of showcasing Sri Lanka’s distinct culinary traditions. She noted that in today’s world, travellers are increasingly seeking immersive experiences rather than just places to visit.

The Prime Minister articulated that food is a powerful conduit for culture, cherished memories, local identity, and national heritage. She believes that by leveraging its rich culinary arts, Sri Lanka can establish itself as a destination celebrated for its flavours and creativity, complementing its natural beauty.

Dr. Amarasuriya further highlighted that CAFE, as South Asia’s premier culinary and hospitality exhibition organized by the Chefs Guild of Lanka, serves as a vital hub. It provides an unparalleled space for professional chefs, emerging talents, and industry leaders to compete, learn from each other, share innovative ideas, and forge international connections. She described the Expo as an expansive and creative celebration of culinary skill, heritage, collaboration, and expression.

The ceremony was attended by a distinguished gathering, including Gerard Mendis, President of the Chefs Guild of Lanka; Bernard Stephan, Chairman of Nestlé Lanka; Chandra Wickramasinghe, Chairman of CDC Events & Travels; and Shiran Peiris, Chairman of House of ASRIEL, alongside numerous institutional representatives and leading chefs. The Culinary Expo was  successfully  concluded on 15th Sunday, June 15, 2025.
