Customs seizes Kush and Hashish drugs worth fifty million rupees…

Sri Lanka Customs Narcotic Control Unit Uncovers Rs. 50 Million Worth of Narcotics concealed inside a speaker.
The Narcotic Control Unit (NCU) of Sri Lanka Customs has successfully intercepted and detained a said speaker on 09.01.2025 which was received to Colombo Cargo Express (FedEx) via express courier from Canada due to the suspicion of containing narcotic substances concealed inside it.
The said consignment was remained unclaimed for an extended period, prompting further inspection. On June 25, 2025, in the presence of officers from the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) and Customs officers attached to the NCU, the speaker was dismantled, opened and examined. The search revealed 17 packets of concealed narcotic substances: approximately 862 grams (9 packets) of kush and 4014 grams (8 packets) of hashish. The total estimated street value of the seized narcotics stands at approximately Rs. 50 million.
The seized narcotics were formally handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigation. This successful detection underscores the unwavering vigilance and commitment of the officers of Sri Lanka Customs in combating transnational narcotics trafficking. The proactive efforts and dedication demonstrated by the Narcotic Control Unit are highly commendable and reflect the institution’s critical role in safeguarding national security and public health.
