The Batch of A/L 2022 of the Old Boys’ Association of Amal International School, proudly organized this year’s much-anticipated annual cricket tournament – “Amal OBA Cricket SAGA 2025”, Powered by Lucky Stores. The electrifying event took place on the Sunday July 20 at the Moors Sports Club Grounds, Colombo, and was nothing short of an exciting cricketing carnival.
A total of sixteen teams, made up of spirited Amal old boys, competed in this year’s edition. The teams were divided into four groups, and after a thrilling series of matches, Team 2007 Sixers faced off against Team Last Picks (A/L Batch of 2021) in a nail-biting Grand Finale. Ultimately, the 2007 Sixers triumphed and claimed the coveted title of Champions of SAGA 2025.
The winning team’s captain Azeem Mukthar, received the championship trophy and cash prize from the chief guest Ashen Bandara, a renowned batting all-rounder from the Sri Lankan National Cricket Team.
Individual excellence was also recognized, with the following awards presented:
Best Bowler – M. Waseem (2007 Sixers), Best Batsman – Muhammadh Rizan (2K22 Sharks), Man of the Final – M. Shumail (2007 Sixers) and Most Valuable Player (MVP) – Muhammadh Rizan (2K22 Sharks)
The event was further dignified by the presence of guest of honour, Anfal Hanafi – Managing Director of the Cricket Store, along with Razeen Assan – Principal of Amal International School, Mrs. A.R. Mihilar – Former Deputy Principal and fondly known as the ‘Mother of Amal’, and M. Nilam – CEO of title sponsor, Lucky Stores. These distinguished guests also took part in the awards distribution.
The event was also graced by the presence of OBA President Munshif Munzir, alongside Project Chairpersons Abdullah Fouz and Adnan Nawroos, backed by the SAGA Committee. The tournament brought together a vibrant mix of old boys, teachers, parents, and supporters in a true celebration of unity and legacy.
With over 100,000 viewers tuning in via livestream and more than 300 attendees present onsite, the Amal OBA Cricket SAGA 2025 set a new benchmark in the Amal cricketing tradition, truly a grand success that will be remembered for years to come.
