Twenty-seven held over May 9 attacks

Twenty seven (27) suspects have been arrested thus far by the Dambulla Police on suspicion of involvement in the recent violence in the Dambulla area, Dambulla Inspector of Police Rukshan Perera said.

He stated that later 25 of them were produced before Dambulla District/Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (18) and nine have been remanded, while the other 16 suspects were released on surety bails.

The suspects involved in the destruction of houses and other properties on May 9 are residents of the same area while one of them is a Dambulla Municipal Councillor (JVP), he added.

Meanwhile, two more suspects were due to be produced before the Dambulla District/Magistrate’s Court yesterday, police said.
