Sri Lanka Red Cross Society Seeks Humanitarian Assistance from the International Community

The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) recently sought humanitarian assistance from its Partner National Societies (PNSs), donor countries, international agencies that provide humanitarian support and people all over the world to relieve the Sri Lankan people suffering from the present crisis. Especially included in the appeal were essential medicines and aid items ready to be dispatched immediately to the beneficiaries.

In response, the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has already donated around 700,000 CHF worth assistance that included essential medicines and aid that could be immediately distributed. The Singapore Red Cross Society (SRCS) and the China Red Cross Society (CRCS) has assisted the SLRCS to distribute essential food items among needy families suffering under the present crisis. The SRCS has also launched an international appeal to provide Sri Lanka with essential medicines.

Meanwhile, with the SLRCS engaged in successful talks with several international donor agencies and residents of various countries to obtain essential medicines, Mr. Jagath Abeysinghe – President of the SLRCS, is firmly convinced that the SLRCS could formulate a successful procedure to bring these medicines into the country.

The SLRCS strongly believes that all the aid brought in in this manner will help normalize the lives of Sri Lankans impacted by this crisis.
