Iran Cultural Centre had opened Iran Corner a special section in the Colombo Public Library second floor to mark the commemoration day of Iranian famous persian poet and story writer Nezami Ganjari on 11th March. The facility to know all the arts, culture, poet and science of Iran has been established through this.
Cultural Councilor of Iran Cultural Section B. M. Goodarzi and Chief Librarian of Colombo Public Library Waruni Gagabadaarachchi were attended and inauguration ceremony.
Cultural Councilor Goodarzi said Knowledge and interaction with the cultures of other nations are factors for a sustainable development. There is no need to remind the important role of books and libraries in development, because it is very clear and the opening of the Iran Corner in the Colombo Public Library, is a step taken in the direction of sustainable development and consolidation of cultural relations between the two countries. Iran is a big country with a rich history and culture and Persian poetry is the summary of the rich Iranian Culture.
He thanked the Colombo Public Library which took a big step in expanding relations and creating recognition and empathy between the people of the two countries, and they hope to see further expansion of these relations by holding the Iran-Sri Lanka Children’s Friendship Week in this library in June.
These books are kept for the benefit of the readers in the second section of the library. An Iranian film also was screened for students during the event.
National Library Documentation and Services Board W.M. Aravinda and officials of the Public Library were also present.
