Cafe 2023 – the Culinary Art Food Expo organised by the Chefs Guild of Lanka (CGL) together with World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) will once again come to life at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre at the BMICH from 09th June 2023 to 11th June 2023.. The Culinary Art Food Expo is a trade show annually held in Colombo, normally in the month of June, but due to the recent pandemic, the exhibition could not be held in the last three years. The Culinary Art Food Expo is an all inclusive Food and Beverage Exhibition which was first held in 1992 with only 75 competitors , but today Café 2023 boasts of more than a thousand skilled and upcoming Chefs who are all competing for hundreds of Gold, Silver and Bronze medals on one stage. The exhibition is Sri Lanka’s most prestigious and most renowned Food and Hospitality trade show and is looked forward to by both food lovers and professionals alike.
Veteran Chef Gerard Mendis of CGL, stated that the Culinary Art Food Expo 2023 platform will offer a golden opportunity for its members to showcase their culinary excellence while honing the creativity of chefs who are participating in a team setting. Chefs will be able to their display their unique skills, techniques and share ideas with others. He added that Cafe 2023 provides a platform for the young and upcoming Chefs to showcase their culinary talent that will lead them on the path to progression in their field. Chef Mendis noted that many Sri Lankan chefs hold high positions worldwide in the culinary industry and is an area of growing demand. He stated that the Chef’s Guild of Lanka continually keeps abreast of current global food trends to ensure that Sri Lanka is also on par with international concepts in the food industry.
The Culinary Art Food exhibition attracts participants islandwide, while buyers representing various sectors visit the Culinary Art Food Expo to view and purchase the latest food related products and to discover the latest cutting edge technology used in food production. The chef’s competition categories will be adjudged by internationally famous WACS approved judges from the USA, Europe, Far East, Pacific Rim and the Middle Eastern regions and the event will be graced by World President Chef Thomas Gugler. Sri Lankan President Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, has also confirmed his attendance as the Chief Guest for the inauguration ceremony on the 8th of June 2023 alongside other dignitaries.
