In a major drug interdiction operation, officers from the Narcotics Control Unit of Sri Lanka Customs apprehended a 59-year-old Brazilian male passenger early this morning upon his arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport.
The suspect, who traveled from Brazil via Doha on Qatar Airways flight QR658, was found in possession of 4,855 grams of cocaine ingeniously concealed within seven backpacks hidden inside his checked luggage. The arrest, made around 2:45 a.m., was the result of precise risk management of Narcotic Control Unit of Sri Lanka Customs.
This interception is considered as one of the most sophisticated concealments of narcotics ever uncovered by Sri Lanka Customs.
The estimated street value of the seized cocaine is approximately Rs. 243 million.
Ongoing investigations are being carried out by the Customs Narcotics Control Unit, and both the suspect and the confiscated narcotics will be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further legal action.
