COVID 19 patients with ‘Black Fungus’ found in Sri Lanka

The COVID-19 patients diagnosed with ‘Black fungus’ have been reported from several areas of the country, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr Hemantha Herath said today.

He said the cases had been found in several hospitals such as Colombo National Hospital, Kurnegala and Rathnapura.

“The fungus can be found on the skin, around eyes, nose, brain and lungs,” he explained.

He said patients with very low immunity were prone to this fungus which is in the enviornment.

He sais this disease does not spread from person to person and there was no possibility of it turning into an epidemic.

Earlier, ordinary patients with balck fungus have been found from Sri Lanka but this is the first time COVID-19 patients have been diagnosed with black fungus.
