Police Special Task Force (STF) personnel have taken into custody a suspect for having a stock of cigarettes, which had been imported to the country without a duty payment.
The suspect had been taken into custody along with the cigarettes by STF Officers during a raid in North Batagama, Ja-ela in the Kandana Police Division.
Over 6,000 cigarettes worth over Rs. 500,000 were seized in the raid.
The STF personnel from the Gonahena Camp carried out the raid on a tip off from the Naval Intelligence Division under the supervision of In-charge of the Western North SSP Sylvester Wijesinghe by Inspector of Police S. D. P. N. Deshapriya together with a team of officers.
The suspect and the cigarettes had been handed over to the Kandana Police.
