A driver of Energy Minister Gamini Lokuge was clubbed to death by a group of individuals over a personal dispute.
The victim a resident of Gammanawatta in Mawittara, Kesbewa had warned a youth who had been riding a motorcycle at high speed opposite his home to reduce the speed. Angered by this admonition, the youth in question, had returned with another group and had assaulted the victim using clubs.
The victim had died on admission to the Piliyandala Base Hospital. Police arrested the main suspect while he was receiving treatment at the Kalubowila Colombo South General Hospital. Piliyandala Police are conducting further investigations. Energy Minister Gamini Lokuge on being informed about the incident had rushed to the victim’s house.The Minister said that victim was driving one of his vehicles. “He took leave for few days to reap the paddy harvest in his field,”he said.
