Customs have seized 350 kilos of cocaine worth over Rs. 6 bn from a consignment of scrap metal which was to be re-exported.
The consignment of cocaine was found in a container with forged documents and the drug was seized during a search of the container carried out on suspicion.
Further investigations revealed that the ship was on its way to India and that the cocaine was hidden in bags in a scrap metal container.
Customs has launched a special investigation into the cocaine stock.The stock of drugs is to be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau and the Customs has launched an extensive investigation into the incident, Customs Media Spokesman,Deputy Director Sudaththa Silva.
