A top official of the Department of Railways yesterday said that even though approval was granted by the Cabinet to increase train fares, it will take more than a week to do so.
He said that fares will be increased after legal matters are attended to.
Meanwhile, the Railway Locomotive Operation Engineers’ Association has launched a trade union action to withdraw from engaging in overtime services from March 29 and the Association has taken steps to temporarily postpone the trade union action due to a discussion to be held with Transport Minister Dilum Amunugama.
