Sri Lankan Cinematographer Prabhath Roshan Wins Best Cinematography Award at the Asian Art Film Festival for Riverstone

Sri Lankan cinematographer Prabhath Roshan has won the Golden Petrel Award for Best Cinematography at the Asian Art Film Festival for his work on the feature film Riverstone, marking a significant international achievement for Sri Lankan cinema.

According to festival organizers, Riverstone was selected from a highly competitive field of international productions for its exceptional visual storytelling and artistic cinematography. The jury reportedly commended the film for its sensitive visual language, atmospheric composition, and technically accomplished use of confined spaces to enhance the narrative experience.

The festival’s international jury panel was chaired by Academy Award-winning director Malcolm Clarke and included acclaimed film professionals associated with globally recognized honors such as the Academy Awards, Primetime Emmy Awards, César Awards, Golden Rooster Awards, Golden Horse Awards, and the International Film Festival of India, reflecting the international stature of the recognition.

The National Film Corporation of Sri Lanka expressed pride in bringing Riverstone to local audiences through the Rithma Circuit. The Corporation congratulated Roshan on the achievement, noting that international recognition of this nature helps elevate the profile of Sri Lankan cinema on the global stage while inspiring the country’s artistic community.

Riverstone is currently screening island wide through the Rithma Circuit, offering audiences the opportunity to experience what the NFC describes as “an emotionally powerful cinematic journey.”

Mr. Prabhath Roshan is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow, 23 May 2026, at 9.55 p.m. via AirAsia at Bandaranaike International Airport following this prestigious international recognition.
